  • The act of union

    In July, the year of 1840, Canada was officially passed by the British parliament. It had a huge impact on Canada as it united the colonies of Northern Canada and Southern Canada under one government. It was first a thought during 1839, as an imperial mission to investigate of rebellions of both colonies from 1837. It was in all hopes to create a mutual commercial system within Canada.
  • Claim of Vacouver Island

    In 1843, Britain took a claim over Vancouver island. This was assured by Fort Victoria.
  • Canada's capital city

    Ottawa, the formal name of Bytown. Canada's capital city discovered on September 26, 1826.
  • The grand trunk railway is completed.

    A major railway, connected between Montreal and Toronto, was finally completed after millions of money put into it, many many hours of work and a lot of planning for it. In its time, it was the biggest railway at 2,055 km. An image of the railway would show many complexities throughout the length of the railway.
  • A bigger step

    A university, in New Brunswick, was the first university to accept a female into their school. This changing the public view on sexism as it was hard as it was for a female to get a job anywhere let alone getting accepted into a university.
  • Canada becomes a dominion and has independence

    In the year of 1867, Canada had grown independently and became its own Country. Not through a huge impact with revolution or a cause of war, but within several negotiations.
  • British Columbia becomes part of confederation.

    As Canada's most western province, it was originally known as a British Colony. It had become Canada's sixth known province. Under certain restrictions, Canada had agreed to take British Columbia's debt for a railway to be built for the Pacific Coast. This allowing British Columbia to send its representatives to the parliament.
  • O Canada, our anthem

    Our national anthem, what makes Canada, Canada, in respect of those fallen, but to stand strong for our Country, this is what we sing.
    Written in Quebec City, by Sir Adolphe-Basile Routhier, and the composer being Calixa Lavalee, it was first performed June 24 of 1880. It was first made out in French, but as it spread across Canada, it was soon song in various language's.

    During 1913, Canada had many immigrants move to Canada for a more open opportunity and move for life. As Canada was the most open Country, allowing anyone to get a start on life, including new work, new homes and a new environment.
