Jan 31, 1906

This was the seventh largest earthquake since 1900. The earthquake occurred off the Coast of Ecuador and Colombia (Lat 1.0, Long -81.5) with a magnitude of 8.8. The earthquake created a large tsunami that caused over 500 deaths and it was felt as far north as San Francisco.

Aug 15, 1950

The tenth largest earthquake since 1900 occured in Tibet (Lat 28.5, Long 96.5) and had a magnitude of 8.6 on the Richer Scale. It was felt all the way in Calcutta.

Kamchatka

Nov 4, 1952

This was the fifth largest earthquake since 1900. The earthquake hit the Hawaiian Island, Kamchatka (Lat 52.76, Long 160.06) with a magnitude of 8.2 and recalculated to a 9.0. The earthquake caused over a 1 million dollars in damage but no body was killed.

May 22, 1960

This was the largest earthquake ever. The 2010 Chile earthquake happened off the Coast of Central Chile (Lat -38.29, Long -73.05) with a magnitude of 9.5. Over 1,600 people killed, 3,000 injured, 2 million left homeless and over $550 million dollars in damage. It was also about 500,000 dollars in damage to the west coast of the US.

This was the second largest earthquake since 1900. This earthquake occurred in the Prince William Sound in Alaska (Lat 61.02, Long -147.65) with a magnitude of 9.2. This great earthquake and tsunami caused 128 deaths. The most damage to property was in Anchorage where they had landslides. The total cost of damage to property was $311 million dollars.

This was the eighth largest earthquake since 1900. The earthquake occurred On Rat Island Alaska (Lat 51.21, Long 178.5) with a magnitude of 8.7. Cracks occurred in buildings and paved runways On Adak Island. The damage and losses caused by flooding was about $10,000 dollars. This earthquake produce a tsunami reported to be about 10.7 meters high on Shemya Island.

This was the third largest earthquake since 1900. This earthquake occurred Off The West Coast of Northern Sumatra (Lat 3.30, Long 95.78) with a magnitude of 9.1. The earthquake and tsunami caused over 227,898 people to die or become missing and 1.7 million people were left homeless.

This was the sixth largest earthquake since 1900. The earthquake occurred on Offshore Maule, Chile (Lat -35.846, Long -72.719) with a magnitude of 8.8. The earthquake caused at least 523 deaths, 24 people missing, 12,000 injured and 800,000 people were left homeless. There were 4,013 schools, 79 hospitals and 4,200 boats damaged from the earthquake and the tsunami. The earthquake started at the fault that conveys the Nazca plate eastward and downward beneath the South American plate.

This was the fourth largest earthquake since 1900. The earthquake occurred in Japan near the East Coast of Honshu (Lat 38.322, Long 142.369) with a magnitude of 7.8. The tsunami caused by the earth quake had waves over 38m high. There were over 15,000 people killed, over 4,000 missing, 130,927 people were left homeless; over 332,000 buildings, 2,000 roads as well as bridges and railways were destroyed. Total economic loss was estimated to be 309 billion U.S dollars.
