Immigrants Accepted
The first 4200 Immigrants were admitted into Canada.
People were finding their way to Canada and were willing to travel that far. -
Anti-Asiatic Parade
The Japanese and Chinese arrivals increased and Indians, mostly from Punjab had come to Vancouver. The British Columbians could not handle all those immigrants and so an 'Anti-Asiatic Parade' which ended up as a riot and much damage was done to the Japanese Quarter and Chinatown. This is important to our immigration history because that was the first time many Indians had come and got the response of an 'Anti Parade'. Also on the other hand Japanese and Chinese immigrants were increasing? -
World War One - Komagatu Maru Arrives
In the time of World War One, a ship called Komagata Maru arrived in Canada. It was from China containing about 380 Indians. All the Indians aboard were refused to be admitted, and so after few months in harbour they returned. Also between 1914 and 1920, only 1 Indian was accepted into Canada. In this time many immigrants were rejected and some didn't even have anything to go back to since they had given up everything just to come to Canada. Was rejection really that neccesary? -
The Doors Open To Preferred Countries
There was not much immigration after the war and so Canada opened up to the British and the following countries: Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Luxembourg, Germany, Switzerland, Holland, Belgium and France. But only the farmers and agriculturalists and other labourers were allowed in from the 'non-peferred' countries. There was much racism in Canada. There were preferred and non-preferred countries and many were discriminated upon, but at least Canada had started to ALLOW people in. -
Railway Agreement
When this agreement was signed many immigrants and labourers were admitted into Canada to work on it. Before the government wouldn't let the people from 'non-preferred' countries come in but know they were in need of labourers and so they turned to those exact countries; using the way of politics eh? -
Communist Party Made Illegal
A communist party usually leads to political problems, because then, if everything is publically owned, cultures will not get a chance to have an organization or school where they would teach the kids their culture. The public may not agree with it since everything has to be 'publically owned'. Cultures may not have a chance to be expressed. Canada is very strong, politically and so that would help support the immigrants and new comers. Also having private companies would create more jobs. -
Immigration reached its lowest level
World War Two began and immigration reached its lowest level.
Those were devastating moments and many people were not immigrating. But the flow of immigrants started after this war since everything those people owned would have been blown up or destroyed and so for a better life they would move here.
It became a 'peaceful' country. -
Hungarians Arrive
After the Hungarian uprising, about 200 000 Hungarians departed to Austria. Because of PUBLIC pressure, the Canadian Government implied that there would be a program with free passage, and so 37 000 Hungarians were admitted. I took this event into consideration because it shows that Canada isn't a country that rejected all immigrants. This event shows how Canada was developing and how the PUBLIC opinion mattered. -
World Refugee Year
This was the time when John Diefenbaker was Prime Minister. 325 tubercular patients were admitted into Canada. This event is important because it shows how much Canada has changed and how Canada is making its way to peace and eliminating discrimination. -
Kosovar refugees
Canada offered to take in some, 5000 refugees for two years with the option to apply for permanent residence. Those 5 000 were placed in military houses, later resettled throughout the country.
They were all welcomed and were treated with respect. This showed that Canada had stopped discrimination among cultures and there was no excluding of a culture or country. -

Merily Wel-comed
Many immigrants came in, and were welcomed too. Canada was filling up all the empty land space and cities were growing larger! Today Canada is represented by many cultures living together in peace!
