    The Missouri Compromise
    After the Louisiana Purchase, Congress had to establish a way to determine how to expand slavery into the western territory. Debates sparked when news that Missouri applied for statehood as a slave state spread. The Missouri Compromise was their solution. Missouri would be admitted as a slave state and Maine as a free state. To maintain balance, they drew a line dividing the north and south as free and slave. This led to the Civil War because it painted a clear image of how the US was divided.

    Nat Turner was a slave who led the bloodiest rebellion the south had ever had. As a result of the rebellion, Virginia lawmakers took away what little civil rights slaves and free blacks had. This led to the Civil War because it demonstrated how slaves were displeased with their circumstances and were willing to rise up and fight for change.

    This act was part of the Compromise of 1850 that stated if any federal official did not arrest a runaway slave, they would be expected to pay a fine. The act motivated many ablolitionist to increase their efforts of helping slaves escape. This caused southern slave owners fustration. Their exasperation with abolitionist would later lead to the Civil War.

    Uncle Tom's Cabin was a book written by an abolitionist named Harriet Beecher Stowe. The book heavily impacted how the northerners viewed slavery. It painted a terrifying image and was successful at gaining support in the fight against slavery. This led to the Civil War because while the south claimed Stowe's book view of slavery was distorted, the abolitionist gained support. This created a wide gap between the south and north.

    Congress passed the Kansas Nebraska Act of 1854 which allowed territories to vote weather they allowed slavery or not. Many people, people against and proslavery, fled to Kansas hoping to vote for their side and win. They would use violent acts in order to decrease the amount of people from the opposing side from entering the territory. This led to the Civil war because it supported extreme ways of getting what the antislavery and proslavery supporters wanted.

    An abolitionist named John Brown led an attack in Harper's Ferry. His goal was to gather weapons to use in slave uprisings. Once he was caught he surrendered, was tried and executed. This led to the Civil War because the south began to arm their slaves and people who were anti-slavery believed Brown's death shouldn't have been for nothing.

Lincoln believed that the south had too much power and believed that slavery should not be extend to western territory.     After states in the south succeeded, many US ports that were located in the south were out of reach. Lincoln sent supplies but they were denied by Confederate warships and a battle had now begun. After that event Lincoln called for volunteers to fight in the Northern army and this led to the Civil War.
