Jackie Robinson joins the Dogers
Jackie Robinson was the first black to play in a major leagues during the Civill Rights era. Robinson was awarded the MLB Rookie of the Year Award that same year.This was important to the Civil Rights movement because it was beginning to show how sports didn't care what the color of your skin was , but how good you could play the sport. -
Executive order 9981
During Trumans presidencyan an Executive Order was called in ny him in regards too racism against blacksand the end of segregation in the U.S Armed Forces. Before the order was called in Blacks in the Armed Forces had different set of rules the those who were White. -
Little Rock crisis
During the Civil Rights movement nine black students enrolled to Little Rock Central High school in Little Rock, Arkansas. Their enrollment to this school caused the Little Rock crisis in which the governor of Arkansas banned these students from entering the school. This was important to the Civil Rights movement because it was the first time Black went to a non-segregated school. -
S.N.C.C
The Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee was organized during the Civil Rights movement to help protest against segregation in the southern part of the United States and their way to protest was doing sit-ins at segregated lunch diners. This was important to the Civil Rights movement because Blacks were starting to stand up for themselves and have their rights of civil liberties. -
James Meredith at the University of Mississippi
James Meredith was a Black male that applied to the University of Mississippi but the university was segregated. Meredith was accepted to the university, he was the first Black to attend that university. This was important to the Civil Rights movement because it was Meredith believed in his civil liberties living in the United States. -
March on Washington
The March on Washington took place in Washington D.C and was one of the biggest rallies during the Civil Rights movement and in United States history. The rallies was towards Black having jobs and freedom because of civil liberties of every citizen in the United States. This was where Martin Luther King gave his most famous speech "I have a dream …". This was important to the Civil rights movement because it made a difference to United States history. -
Civil Rights Act of 1964
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was an act passed by congress that outlawed discrimination towards any race, religion, color, sex, or national origin. This act was introduced during the presidency of Lyndon B. Johnson. This was important to the Civil Rights movement because it ended segregation around the United States. -
Voting Rights Act
The Voting Rights Act was passed by president Lyndon B. Johnson in regards to Blacks voting in the United States. This act was against the 15th amendment that prohibited Black people to vote during elections. Thi was important to the Civil Rights movement because now the Blacks were actually having civil liberties. -
Black Panthers Party
The Black Panthers party was an organization that was against racism and helped the Blacks citizens to go against the military draft. This was important to the Civil Rights movement because it made blacks have real pride for themselves and showed how strong they could be against anybody who was racist. -
M.L.K assassinated
On April 4,1968 in Memphis, Tennessee Martin Luther King Jr. assassinated. He was assassinated in Lorraine motel he was standing outside his balcony and then shot by a Remington Model 760. The fingerprints on the gun matched those of James Earl Ray, he was captured at London's Heathrow Airport. This was significant to the Civil Rights movement because Martin Luther King Jr. made a big impact as a civil rights activists during this time.
