    Jackie Robinson joins the Dodgers
    On April 15, 1947, Jackie Robinson becomes the first African-American in the major leagues when he plays his first game with the Brooklyn Dodgers.He broke the race barrior for sports. Jackie made an impact on the civil rights movement because he changed social look on African American athletes. With Jackies accomplishment we saw some change in unity between races. It also showed that blacks were capable of doing more than what was expected out of them.
  • Executive Order 9981

    Executive Order 9981
    Executive Order 9981 was an executive order issued by President Truman. The executive order abolished racial discrimination in the United States Armed Forces and eventually led to the end of segregation in the services. This desegregated the US armed forces giving the minority higher equality. This influenced the civil rights era because not only blacks but minorities felt encouraged to join the armed forces.This order also improved the treatement given to minorities.

    Brown vs Board of Education
    The Supreme Court rules that segregation in public schools is unconstitutional.The Supreme Court ruled that " Seperate but Equal" was not equal. This Supreme Court case brought up the Plessy V. Ferguson case of 1896 which at the time was declared constitutional.This case had affected the Civil Rights era because it gave African Americans the ability to have a fair and equal level of education as non colored people.This also helped colored people increase their knowldedge .

    Murder of Emmett Till
    Fourteen-year-old Emmett Till is brutally beaten, shot, and dumped in the Tallahatchie River for allegedly whistling at a white woman. Two white men, J. W. Milam and Roy Bryant, are arrested for the murder. This made people angry and sad. After watching the body of the boy people went crazy, how can someone be capable of doing this to a young boy. This motivated people to protest for civil rights.

    Montgomery Bus Boycott
    After the Rosa Park incident African Americans agreed to boycott public transportation. This affected the economy of the bus compaines since colored people were the ones who primarly rode the bus. The boycott went on for a whole year. Companies realized that they were loosing money so they ended segrigation in public transportation. This also gave Martin Luther King power. This was a great impact during the civil war because colored people were starting to see equal treatment without violence.

    24th amendment
    The 24th Amendment abolishes the poll tax, which originally had been set in 11 southern states after Reconstruction to make it difficult for poor blacks to vote. Not having to pay to vote made a huge impact on the civil rights movement because taking away the poll tax meant that low income citizens would be able to vote. Removing the poll will increase the number of people voting especially poor blacks. After the removal from this poll balck will start having a voice by voting.

The act aimed to overcome legal barriers at the state and local levels that prevented African Americans from exercising their right to vote under the 15th Amendment. This will be one major act to the civil rights era becasue it will increase the voice of blacks in the decisons of the government .

    Executive Order 11246, signed by President Lyndon B. Johnson established requirements for non-discriminatory practices in hiring and employment on the part of U.S. government contractors. This will affect the civil rights era because we will see that black people start having some power due to their jobs. This order will increase the black people's economy. Along with an increase of equal treatment there was also an increase of income to the minorities.

    Martin Luther King, Jr. was an American clergyman and civil rights leader who was fatally shot at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis.The assassination of this great leader made a huge impact on the civil rights era because it encouraged people to keep protesting for their rights. This leader left behind a great speech which inspired people to keep fighting for thier rights. The speech motivated many people to continue MLK's dream for a better life.
