    Christopher Columbus' Huge Landing
    After a six weeks at sea, an exhausted Christopher Columbus and his team finally hit land. Columbus thought that he had landed in the "Indies" but he had actually discovered the New World. If Columbus wouldn't have made this mistake, the New World might not have been discovered by the English. Then America would not be the same nation it is now, and our history would be completley different.
  • Spanish Armada is Defeated by the Mighty British

    Spanish Armada is Defeated by the Mighty British
    Sir Francis Drake and his strong fleet of 130 ships storm into the English Channel, but the English sea dogs were ready for the attack and they fought back and defeated the Spanish. This event is significant because after the defeat of the Spanish Armada, the British was the dominant naval power. If the Spanish would have won, the Spanish would have had more colonies in the New World and not just in the present day Mexico area.
  • Jamestown

    Jamestown
    After about a six month journey, 100 Englishsettlers (all of which were men) ventured out on to the New World land and named the place Jamestown. If Jamestown would not have been discovered then the colonists would not have discovered tobacco from the Native Americans and tobacco is what saved the colony and made the populations grow and provide a source of incomes to small farmers in the New World.
  • First Anglo Powhatan War

    The First Anglo Powhatan War ended in 1614. The war was the effect the colonists raiding the Natives tribes and destroying their land. The war ended with the marriage of Pocahantas to John Rolfe. This is significant because that was the first battle between the Natives and the colonists, which would start up many more wars.
  • Mayfower Compact

    Mayfower Compact
    The Mayflower Compact was written and signed by the Seperarists, or Pilgrims. The compact was the a step toward self-government of the colonists, and one step closer to being independant. Without this document the colonists would have been under British control for much longer.
  • Maryland's Act of Toleration

    Maryland was founded by Lord Baltimore in 1634. Maryland was formed to be a place for Catholics to migrate to to avoid persecution. The Act of Toleration was said to be "Maryland's Statute". The Act of Toleration was that all religions could be practiced in the Christian faith excpet for Jews, and the Atheist. The Act of Toleration opened up many oppurtunities to move from the Old to the New World because people were able to practice their own religion freelym which is what people wanted.
  • Harvard University

    Harvard University was founded in 1636. Harvard was the first college in the New World, this promoted growth and education. Without college in the New World the colonies weren't as permanent because none of the children were learning about the world and how to become literate. Without literacy, colonies would not have been successful.
  • The 2nd Anglo-Powhatan War

    The second Anglo Powhatan War was fought for the same reason as the first war was; the colonists were invaded the Indians. This war ended in 1646 and banished all of the Chesapeake Indians from their ancient lands. This is significant because with the Indians gone the colony is now all for the colonists to grow and develop on.

    The Pueblo Indians stormed into New Mexico and burnt down all the Catholic churches they saw , they also killed many ministers and priests. This is signicant because this was the one of the first time the colonists had to defend themselves against the Native Americans, If the Spanish would not have regained control of New Mexico, the New World might have been taken under the Natives control.
  • George Washington verses The French for Ohio Valley

    In 1749 Washington recieved "rights to 5000 acres " in the Ohio Valley. The Ohio Valley was one of the most waned land by everyone of the colonies. So Washington and his men marched up to the Ohio Valley and defeated the French. The French leader and his men retreated.This is significant because if Washington wouldn't have defeated the French then the Ohio Valley would have been under French control which would just make the fight for out independance longer.
