Armenian Massacre
The Ottoman Governnment killed many able bodied Armenians by forcing them to do labor, and and through massacre. They forced women, children and the elderly to go on death marches to the Syrian Desert. They also arrested hundreds of intellectuals and used sexual assault. -
Soviet Purges
The Soviet Purges were the mass murders of Soviet citizens by Joseph Stalin. They started with the murder of those who opposed industrialization. Stalin was attempting to get rid of those who supported groups opposing him. He also got rid of Marxists with differing ideals. Throughout the purges, he held public trials. An estimated 20 million Soviet civilians were sent to labor camps, half of which died. -
Rape of Nanjinjg
The Rape of Nanjing occured during the second Sino-Japanese War and was a large-scale murder and mass war rape that lasted for 6 weeks. Hundreds of thousands of Chinese civilians were killed and sexually assaulted by the Japanese military. -
German Holocaust (Kristallnacht)
Kristallnacht or night of the broken glass breaks out after the assasination of Ernst von Rath. The event is used by the German government to spread hatred toward Jewish Germans and many are sent to concentration camps. -
South African Apartheid
Started when white supremicests took control in africa forcing the native africans to stay out of political matters of there own country. Ended in 1994. -
Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge
The Khmer Rouge or communist party of cambodia, under the rule of Pol Pot killed between 1 million and 3 million people through genocide. People were killed and buried in mass graves. Over 20,000 mass graves were found in Cambodia. -
Iraq under Saddam Hussein
The ba'ath party took over iraq by opverthrowing the previous government in place at the time. It was headed by Saddam he became a dictator and iraq became a military power. -
My Lai Massacre
The My Lai Massacre was a mass killing of unarmed South Vietnamese civilians by U.S. soldiers. Most of the victims were women, children, infants, and the elderly. Many of the women were raped before being mutilated. An estimated 347-504 were killed. Only one soldier involved in the massacre was punished. Although he first got a life sentence, he ended up only serving 3 1/2 years under house arrest. -
Uganda under Idi Amin
When Idi Amin seized power in Uganda, he created a heavily militarized state. As a result of an invasion of Uganda by its exiles, he purged his army of supporters of Milton Obote. Lango and Acholi soldiers were massacred. Victims also included other ethnic minorities, artists, journalists, and more. Bodies were dumped in the Nile. An estimated 300,000 were killed. -
Chile under Augusto Pinochet
In September 1973, Augusto Pinochet overthrew the government of Salvador Allende in a coup de tat. His Chile was an oppressive, militarized state. He would punish those who he believed to not support his rule. Under his rule, 1,200-3,200 people were killed, 80,000 were interned, and 30,000 were tortured. -

Around thirty thousand people went missing during a military dictatorship. -
Somalia civil war
Various forces began competing for power in the unstable country. The previous govt. began aresting other government leaders and military personel making the government weaker and suseptable for the groups to take over. -
Genocide in Bosnia
The genocide in Bosnia was a mass muder of Muslims by Serbs. Yugoslavia had been broken up, and one of the countries created was Bosnia, with a Muslim majority. Solobdan Milosevic invaded it afterwards. The Serbs took Sarajevo and commited mass killings, with many snipers killing helpless Muslims. Around 200,000 died. -
Rwanda Genocide
The Hutu tribe slaughtered their rivals the Tutsis who they have hated for centuries. 500,000 Tutsis were killed in a span of 100 days. -
Darfur Conflict
In Darfur, Sudan hundreds of thousands of people were forced on marches to their death. The Sudanese government was accused of apartheid against all non-arabs in Sudan. -
Sierra Leone and the Child Soldiers
children in Sierra Leone were being recruited for fighting in Liberia. They were used in the Diamond fields as soldiers and workers.
