May stand erect with only slight support. May stand alone without support for a short period of time. Has improved grasping skills. May try to turn doorknobs. -
16 to 18 months physical development
squats down smoothly from standing position. Walks fast and runs stiffly. May show hand preference in all activities. Builds tower of three cubes. -
16 to 18 months intellectual development
Remembers where objects belong. Begins to figure things out through thought process. Vocabulary increases to 6 to 10 words.Says "no" more often than any other word. -
19 to 21 months physical development
Walks sideways and backwards. Runs without falling often.Loves to run, jump, and climb. Can fold a piece of paper once imitating demonstration. -
19 to 21 intellectual development
learns to distinguish different sounds and smells. Likes to make marks on paper with big crayons. Has vocabulary of about 20 words. -
22 to 24 physical development
Walks with more coordination and assurance. Throws ball overhead instead of tossing. Shows increased coordination and smoother hand and finger movement. -
22 to 24 intellectual development
follows simple directions. May be able to draw crude pictures and interpret what they are. Has Vocabulary of 50 or more words. Answers simple questions such as " where is the doggie?" -
24 to 30 months physical development
improves motor skills as torso lengthens and baby fat begins to disappear. Climbs everywhere indoors, even in forbidden places. Opens doors by turning knobs. -
24 to 30 intellectual development
Refers it self by name. Distinguishes between before and after. Uses 2 words sentences. Uses word to make requests. -
30 to 36 months physical development
Likes to be in constant motion, running, or walking sideways or backwards. Goes upstairs by alternating feet, but goes down one foot at a time. Scribbles and draws circles as well as horizontal and vertical lines. Likes to paint using full arm motions combined with finger motions -
30 to 36 months intellectual development
Begins to classify objects into general categories. Tries new play activities to discover more about how things work. Starts to use past tense and plurals.
