During the period between 16 to 18 months toddlers may be able to walk sideways. Toddlers also start to use words instead of gestures to express some wants, such as "up" or "cookie" -

At the 19 to 21 month point toddlers can kick a ball without stepping on it and can hold containers in one hand, put small objects into it with the other hand, then dump the objects out. At this time toddlers can also have a vocabulary of about 20 words and have intrests in small things like bugs -

At this point the toddler can bounce and sway in simple dancing movements and can put several blocks together to make a train or stack them to build a tower. They also start to become interested in the outcome of activities rather than just the activities themselves and develop an intrest in sound repetition. -

During these months the toddler improve their motor skills as their torso lengthens and baby fat begins to disappear and can carefully turn pages of book one page at a time. They can also become increasingly interested in children's TV shows and can start to use two word sentences. -
