Jackson's Birth
Andrew Jackson was born on March 15, 1767 in Waxhaw, North Carolina.He was the son of Scotch-Irish immigrants.Andrew did not receive higher education and at the age of 13, Jackson signed up for the Revolutionary War. -
Jackson enlists in Revolutionary Army
Andrew Jackson joined the revolutionary war only when he was 13 years old. He was in the Battle of Hanging Rock. He was taken as a prisoner of war by the British. Jackson started to hate the British when a British soldier hit him with his sword when he refused to shine his shoe. -
Battle of horseshoe bend
In the Battle of Horseshoe Bend the army was lead by none other than General Andrew Jackson. The battle took place in Daviston, Alabama on March 27, 1814. General Jackson defeated a smaller force of the Upper Creek or Red Stick Native Americans. This was also the final battle of the Creek War, which is apart of the War of 1812. -
Battle of New Orleans
The battle didn’t have to happen.The American forces were lead to victory by General Andrew Jackson,.on January 8, 1815. The reason why it didn’t have to happen was several weeks after the signing of The Treaty of Ghent, news travelled very slowly back then and so they decided to go to war. The interesting part of the Battle of New Orleans was that only 8 Americans were dead and 13 wounded and the British lost 700 and 1,400 were injured. -
Election of 1824
Race between John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson,there were others such as Henry Clay, a powerful senator. But since no one received a majority of votes, the House of Representatives would decide. Despite Jackson receiving more popular votes, Clay's influence persuaded the election to vote for Adams, who became the 6th president. Jackson was furious and when J.Q. appointed Clay to a coveted position as Secretary of State, he accused them publicly of making a "corrupt bargain". -
Election of 1828
After the disappointing election of 1824 Jackson swore to get his revenge on what he called a “Corrupt Bargain”. The campaign for the election was the first time there was “mud slinging” going on. Jackson was accused of many things and believes that one of the comments said caused his wife, Rachel, to die before the inauguration. Jackson was the clear winner of the election, the south, west, Pennsylvania, and New York voted for Jackson and the New England states voted for Adams. -
Indian Removal Act
In May 1830, Congress had passed the Indian Removal Act which meant that they can relocate the Indians anywhere west of the Mississippi. This caused most the Indians to feel sad as they had to leave their homelands, some left peacefully and others thought they could stand up to them. Eventually the Indians had lost and were forced to move anyway, which caused to journey to be called The Trail of Tears. -
Worcester vs. Georgia
Worcester Vs. Georgia was a court case where the Supreme Court said that the fact that people who weren't a Native American, including people married to Cherokee Indians and Missionaries, had to have a license to live in Georgia. Chief Justice John Marshall said that Georgia had no force on the Cherokee community, so now the national government cannot conduct Native American affairs. -
Nullification Crisis
There was a struggle between Jackson and the states. The reason why is that the states had refused to pay a protective tariff that Jackson wanted and the states wanted to nullify it. Basically, to nullify is to cancel and the states wanted the tax to be canceled meaning they wouldn’t have to pay it. It that had happen the states would have more power of the federal government, so Henry Clay came up with a compromise to solve the problem. -
Bank War
The Bank War started when the National Bank's charter was renewed. This means that the current president can veto it end it. Andrew Jackson chose to veto the National Bank. By doing this, he beat Henry Clay in the next presidential election by a landslide.
