  • Malcolm X

    Malcolm X and his family lived in Omaha, Nebraska and his dad was a baptist preacher. The KKK sent threats and forced them to move to Michigan where the threats continued. A few years later his dad was brutally murdered and law enforcement refused to prosecute who was responsible. HE then got into criminal activities and was later assassinated in 1965.

    This was a conflict between Spain and the United States. This ended the Spanish colonial rule in the United States. The gained access to the western pacific and Latin America.

    Theodore Roosevelt

    Theodore Roosevelt was a lot of different things. He was an American statesman, author, explorer, soldier, naturalist, and reformer. He was the 26th president from 1901 to 1909. He was the first sitting president to leave the United States.
  • The Birth of a Nation (1915)

    This was a sensation after it was released in 1915. It described the Reconstruction era. The film takes quotes from a history book.

    Flappers

    Flappers took place during the 1920’s. They were a generation of Woman. They wore short skirts, they bobbed their hair, they were big fans of jazz music, and they flaunted. Their behavior was allowed even though they were disrespectful.
  • The League of Nations

    After WW1 this became an international organization. This happened under the Treaty of Versailles. This organization was to promote world peace and cooperation.
  • The Great Gatsby (Novel)

    This is a story told by Nick Carraway. He used to be Gatsby’s neighbor. He told the story sometime after 1922. Nick just moved from the Midwest to West Egg, Long Island. He was trying to find a good spot for his bond salesman.

    This was a name given to the cultural, social, and artistic explosion that happened. This happened in Harlem. This happened at the end of the WW1 and the middle of the 1930’s.

    There was hundreds of immigrants who had political views by the government and they had to deport. This all took place when the Cold war was going on. It started to ease by the late 1950’s.
  • Fatboy and Little Man

    This is a codename for the atomic bomb. It was detonated over the Japanese city of Nagasaki by the United States. The attack happened on August 9 1945

    Martin Luther King, Jr.

    Martin Luther King Jr. was a Baptist minister and social activist who played a key role in the American civil rights movement from the mid-1950s until his assassination in 1968. Inspired by advocates of nonviolence such as Mahatma Gandhi, King sought equality for African Americans, the economically disadvantaged and victims of injustice through peaceful protest
  • Julius and Ethel Rosenberg

    Julius was arrested in July 1950, and Ethel in August of that same year, on the charge of conspiracy to commit espionage. Specifically, they were accused of heading a spy ring that passed top-secret information concerning the atomic bomb to the Soviet Union. The Rosenbergs vigorously protested their innocence, but after a brief trial in March 1951 they were convicted. On April 5, 1951, a judge sentenced them to death and were put to death in 1953.
  • Bay of Pigs Invasion

    On April 17, 1961, 1400 Cuban exiles launched what became a botched invasion at the Bay of Pigs on the south coast of Cuba. In 1959, Fidel Castro came to power in an armed revolt that overthrew Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista.
  • Medicare and Medicaid

    July 30, 1965, president Lyndon B. Johnson signed into law the bill the led to Medicare and Medicaid. The original Medicare program included Part A (Hospital Insurance) and Part B (Medical Insurance). Today these 2 parts are called “Original Medicare.”
  • Jimmy Carter’s Energy Crisis

    In the early 1970’s american oil consumption was rising even as oil production was declining. These assumptions were demolished in 1973, when an oil embargo imposed by members of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries led to fuel shortages and sky-high prices throughout much of the decade.
  • Watergate

    On june 17th 1972, burglars were caught in the watergate building in washington. These burglars were connected to Nixon’s reelection campaign and were trying to wiretap phones and steal secret documents. Nixon then tried to cover it up before being forced to resign.
  • Reaganomics

    In the campaign of 1980 Ronald Reagan announced a way to fix the the “economic mess” in america. He claimed and undue tax burden, excessive government regulation, and massive social spending hampered growth. He proposed a phased 30% tax cut for the first 3 years of his presidency.
  • Iran

    Contra Scandal- The Iran-Contra Affair was a clandestine action not approved of by the United States Congress. It began in 1985, when President Ronald Reagan's Administration supplied weapons to Iran (a sworn enemy) in hopes of securing the release of American hostages held in Lebanon by Hezbollah terrorists loyal to Iran's leader.
  • Social Security

    This was a law that was enforced by President Franklin D. Roosevelt. This was a system of transfer payments. This was for the younger working people to support the old and retired people.
  • September 11, 2001

    On this day Osama Bin Laden sent Troop of suicide bombers to wreck planes into the World Trade Center in New York. There were 4 planes and 3 of them successfully hit the towers but one crashed in a field in Pennsylvania because the passengers took action. The reason that they attacked us is because, they didn't like that we are a democracy and had freedoms. And a lot of it had to do with Religion too.
