    The Iliad and the Odyssey were written down during the Dark Age of Greece by Homer. These stories were first recited by oracles.

    Olympic Games

    Greeks from all over the world would come to see the Olympic games. The games were so important that wars would be held off to allow athletes safe passage to participate in the games.

    The Persian War

    The Persian War was between the Greeks and the Persians because the Greeks did not want to be under Persia's rule.
  • Period: 469 BCE to 322 BCE

    Lineage of Great Greek Philosophers

    One of the most noteworthy intellectual lineages of history was made up of Greek philosophers which was a line of students and teachers. The line went from Socrates to Plato to Aristotle to Alexander the Great.

    Persia and Greece Make Peace

    Persia ended up relinquishing the claim to Greek colonies which was the source of the conflict.
  • 431 BCE

    The Peloponnesian War

    The Peloponnesian War was fought between Sparta and Athens which were the two most powerful city-states at the time. After winning the Persian War together both city-states became overly confident and power hungry which caused conflicts between each other leading to the Peloponnesian War.

    Greek History is Recorded

    Herodotus was the founder of Greek history-writing after he recorded the history of the Persian War. Herodotus traveled and read to educate himself about the histories he was writing instead of just theorizing about everything.

    King Phillip II uniting Macedonians and Greeks

    The Greeks were not fond of the idea of being forced by King Phillip II to unite with the Macedonians. Phillip uniting Greece meant there were no more independent city-states which was how it was for over a thousand years.

    Alexander the Great was a powerful military leader who conquered many areas. Eventually, Alexander the Great would become too power hungry which would lead to his fall.
