    Treaty of Paris 1763
    This document marked the end of the French and Indian war. The colonies were declared the winners. France was no longer a power in America.

    Proclamation of 1763
    King George III signed this document. It was written to stop expansion westward. It stated the colonists could not settle past the Appalachian Mountains.

  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    The Stamp Act was the first "direct tax" on the colonies. It placed a tax on all printed items.Any printed item had to have a stamp from the British officials. The amount of taxed items grew so high it affectd almost everyone.

    After repealing the Stamp Act the Declaratory Act was passed. It stated that Parliament had the right to taxthe colonies. Also it said that they had the right to make decisions for the colonies "IN ALL CASES."

    This act taxed all imported goods and made them pay at the port. The colonists instead of paying the tax learned to do without the things they couldn't make themselves.This act also pushed the colonies closer to economic independence.

    Colonists did not like British soldiers in the colonies so they threw sticks and rocks at the soldiers. When a soldier was knocked down they believed they were being shot at and opened fire. They killed five of the colonists leading to the removal of Britich troops in America.

    King George III and Parliament passed these laws as punishment form the Boston Tea Party. They closed Boston Harbor, kept food and supplies from being delivered to Boston, banned town meetings, allowed British officers to be tried in other colonies, and quarter soldiers. All of which wen against the colonists rights.They planned to isolate Boston from the rest of the colonies.

  • 1st Continental Congress

    1st Continental Congress
    55 delgates of the colonies met in Philadelphia. They discussed the issues they had with England. They wrote a satmetn of complaints they had where they asked Parliament to repeal 13 acts they had passed. They agreed to boycott all British goods and to not ship them out to Britain. The most important decision they made was to begin making militias.

    Midnight Ride
    Paul Revere, Wentworth Cheswell, and William Dawes warned "The British are coming!"They rode on horses to Lexington to alert the militiamen. They did this to create time to make a barrier in Lexington to make more time for Concord to move the weapons.

    In Lexington 70 militiamen were waiting to fight the British soldiers. They used this to slow the troops down so they could have time to move the gunpowder and weapons. They lost 8 men in Lexington and by the time the British reached Concord most of the supplies were moved.

    Three ships delivering tea came into the Boston Harbor. As a reaction to the Tea Act a few members of the Sons of Liberty dressed as indians. In the middle of the night they snuck onto the sips and threw over 342 chests of tea.
