Albany Plan
The British Board of Trade held a meeting at Albany, to talk about the problems of trade. Franklin created an annual congress for the 13 colonies. Therefor being named the Albany plan. This is what created the congress which in turn created the Declaration of Independence. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was an act of British Parliament that imposed a direct tax on the British colonies and plantations in America. It required that many printed materials in the colonies be produced on paper in London. It stated that colonists were entitled to the same rights as an English man. The Stamp Act was just one of a series of events that led the colonists to declare their independence. -
The Boston Massacre
The people of Boston Massachusetts didn't take well to British army men in their city. A group of colonists started to throw snowballs, sticks, and stones at the British soldiers. The troops started firing back at the crowd. By the end of the massacre, several died and others were wounded, with some deaths due to the wounds. This riot is known as one of the first starters of the war for independence. -
Boston Tea Party
A protest Americans created to bring attention to taxation without representation. The colonists threw 342 boxes of tea into the Boston harbor. It was the start of American revolts against the British leading up to the start of the fight for independence. -
1st Continental Congress
A group of men who would later form the founding fathers got together and completed many acts, like sending a Declaration of Rights to King George III arguing against the rules that were set in place. This forming would soon lead up to the creation of the Declaration of Independence. -
The Intolerable Acts
The Intolerable Acts were a series of laws the British passed after the events of the Boston Tea Party, as a response to the protest. The British took away self-governance and their previous historic rights. This resulted in another revolt of the colonies, leading to the events of the American Revolution, thereby creating the Declaration of Independence. -
2nd Continental Congress
The Second Continental Congress had representatives from all 13 colonies meet in Philadelphia in 1775. The Congress was formed partly to manage colonial troops who were fighting in the Revolutionary War. In 1776, the Congress approved the Declaration of Independence. -
The Battle of Lexington and Concord
This was known as the first battle of the Revolutionary War, and it was the first American victory against the British. -
American Revolution
The American Revolution was a time where the colonists rebelled against the rule of Britain. Many battles were fought over the course of 8 years which ultimately ended with the Treaty of Paris in 1783. -
Declaration of Independence
This document was America's way of telling Britain that they were to be regarded as 13 independent sovereign states. The document was written in the Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania by the Second Continental Congress.
