Trade in Calcutta
1600 queen Elizabeth started East India Company in Calcutta, the capital of India at that time. She did this to develop trade between England and India. Because of the growing trade they soon needed a language that both countries could communicate with. Because of this, two new languages was created but English was still the biggest languages and could be seen on traffic signs. English was so popular because it gave the Indians a form of cultural freedom and a way to understand british culture. -
The English language spread to Australia
1788, 11 ships called "the First Fleet" filled with 780 criminals, both men and women from England came to Australia sentenced to serve time there for the rest of their lives and they were not allowed back to England. They arrived in Port Jackson which is now in the capital of Australia called Sidney. Soon the British population grew fast and grew in numbers. Because the criminals lives in solitary from the British, they soon lost their British accent och a new one was formed. -

The colonization was a period when big european empires started to take parts of America and make them their "own". These parts were called colonies After evolving for almost a millennium on the British Isles, the english language spread throughout the world by sailors, soldiers, pilgrims and missionaries in the British Empire. By the time that something similar to any rules on how you should speak the languages was introduced, English had already reached all corners of the Earth.
