France voted to execute their former king. Louis XVI met his end at the guillotine. "The king must die for the revolution to live." -
Reign of Terror
Period of mass executions of anyone with the slightest link to or who might've come off as a counter revolutionary. Around 40,000 people died in the 23 months of the reign of terror. -
De Christianization
France attempted to eliminate religion, particularly the formerly powerful Catholic Church. Priests were executed, churches looted, and pious people persecuted. -
Execution of Maximilien Robespierre
After attempting suicide, Robespierre was executed by guillotine. His execution ended the Reign of Terror -

Replaced Comittee of Public Safety, was replaced by Napoleon. Fought wars against the other European countries. Not much else -
Napoleon takes over in a Coup D'etat
The title says it all. Napoleon was a charismatic Corsican general, who was very popular in France and led armies across Europe and in North Africa and the Levant. -
Napoleon signs Concordat with the Catholic Church
The concordat recognized the influence of the Catholic Church, but did not allow it influence in French politics. Symbolically, Napoleon met with the Pope in Paris and took a crown off his head and put it on his own. -
Napoleon creates the Napoleonic code
The code established some liberties. Overall, however, it reduced liberties and established censorship and restored slavery to France's Caribbean colonies (not a good decision). -
Napoleon crowns himself emperor of France
Napoleon crowned himself Emperor of France, effectively making him a dictator. -
Napoleon dies after being banished to St. Helena
After being imprisoned by the British, Napoleon died in exile on the remote island of St. Helena.
