    Carnegie Steel’s Homestead Strike
    In Homestead, Pennsylvanian Carnegie's workers went on strike. The value of the steel Carnegie was selling started to decline. Since the value of the steel was decreasing, Carnegie tried to cut down on the wages of his workers.

    Completion of the Transcontinental Railroad
    In May of 1869 the U.S finished creating their transcontinental railroad. This railroad was a huge step into westward expansion for the United States. Our country became more united with this railroad that covered the U.S.

    During the year of 1876 Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone, that would change peoples lives. Bell originally tried to make some type of technology to help deaf people with hearing. Instead, he created something that helped people communicate within a distance.

    The U.S. declared war on Spain because they wanted to expand their territories. The U.S made Spain sign a the Treaty of Paris in December of 1898. This short war sent Cuba, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines free of Spain.

    Some factories processed food in nasty unsanitized buildings. People were getting sick from eating foods that weren't properly stored. This law forced factories to have clean environments for food. Food factories started getting inspected to make sure factory owners were keeping their buildings sanitized and clean.

    Henry Ford produced his first Model T (car)
    Henry Ford was the first man to create a vehicle affordable to everyone. His very first Model T came out of one of his factories in Detroit Michigan. Ford sold his Model T's for $850.

    Tenement Act
    This was an act passed by the government to help the poor people with their living conditions. The main thing tenements were required to have were fire escapes. The new law also made tenement building owners add bathrooms, at least 1 window, and many other things.

    The United States joined WWI because one of there neutral ships got blown up. The U.S fought along the sides of France, Great Britain, and Russia. The U.S sent over 2 million soldiers to fight in this war.

    Women gained the right to vote in 1919. The Women's Suffrage Organization had been fighting for this for over a decade. This law allowed them to have a say in who they wanted to be the next president.
