Treaty of Paris is signed ending the French and Indian War -
Proclamation of 1763
The Royal Proclamation of 1763 was issued October 7, 1763, by King George III following Great Britain's acquisition of French territory in North America after the end of the French and Indian War/Seven Years' War, which forbade all settlement past a line drawn along the Appalachian Mountains. -
Stamp Act
In 1765 Parliament passed another law to raise money. The Stamp Act, placed a tax on almost all printed material in the colonies – including newspapers, pamphlets, wills and even playing cards. -
Townshend Act
Parliament passes the Townshend Acts which include the New York Restraining Act, Customs Service Reform, & Townshend Duty Act places tax on items not made in the colonies (paint, paper, glass, lead and tea). -
Boston Massacre
In March 1770 a fight broke out between colonists and soldiers. The townspeople threw sticks and stones at the soldiers. The redcoats fired, killing Crispus Attucks and four other colonists. -
Tea Act
To keep the British East India Company from going out of business, Parliament passed the Tea Act. It gave the company a break on tea it shipped to the colonies making their tea cheaper than anyone else’s. -
Boston Tea Party

Intolerable act
When King George III and Parliament heard about the Boston Tea Party they realized they werelosing control of the colonies and decided to punish Boston. -
1st Continental Congress
In September 1774, 55 delegates met in Philadelphia at the First Continental Congress to discuss problems with Britain. -
