  • Proclamation Act

    the Proclamation line of 1773, marked in the Appalachian Mountains at the continental divide, was made by the British, and served to keep Anglo-American colonists from settling on the land which they had conquered from France post French and Indian wars.
  • Sugar Act

    the Sugar Act was made to to catch smugglers of molasses and sugar which were large issues at this time for the British. The Sugar Act enforced more secure customs at the border for ships that were not British. This act was enforced to catch smugglers of molasses and sugar as well as to increase British revenue.
  • Currency Act

    the Currency Act prohibited the printing of money to ensure that the value of the currency would not decrease. Before, colonists were printing their own money and Britain made them cease this so they could control currency and prevent it from decreasing in value. this act also set up fines for officials who did not follow the act.
  • Stamp Act

    The Stamp Act served as a way for the British to tax the colonies for pretty much anything they buy or use such as paper, federal documents, dice, playing cards, etc. the money from these taxes was used to fund the war that the British just fought in.
  • Quartering Act

    The Quartering Act was made to cut down on defense costs and have British forces stay with colonials, and they have to provide food, transportation, shelter, and drinks to the forces that are staying with them.
  • Declaratory Act

    The Declaratory Act was a law passed by parliament basically saying that the British had the right to tax the colonist on anything wherever they saw fit.
  • Townshend Act

    The Townshend act allowed the British to put taxes on even more items that the colonists used, such as, glass, lead, paper, paint, and tea
  • Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre started when colonists were throwing snowballs and sticks and stones at British soldiers. The soldiers then fired their guns into the crowd of colonists killing 5, and injuring another 6.
  • Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea party was a rebellion against the British for taxing them without fair representation and without reason. In this rebellion, the colonists threw 342 chests of tea overboard a ship in the Boston Harbor.
  • Intolerable acts (coercive acts)

    The intolerable acts were a reaction of the Boston Tea party from the British. the intolerable acts were 4 laws that served to punish the colonists. thee 4 laws shut down the Boston Harbor, the British replaced the Massachusetts government with an appointed one, allowed guilty British officials to be charged anywhere else, and allowed troops to stay in unoccupied buildings.
  • Quartering Act 1774

    This quartering act not only allowed British troops to stay in unoccupied buildings, but also allowed them to stay in private homes and buildings. this could all be done against the owner of said home or building's will.
  • Quebec Act

    the Quebec act allowed British to make a government for the land that they had conquered from France with the treaty of Paris during the war. this act was one of the direct causes for the American Revolution.
