Back when it all started
The game of basketball as it is known today was created by Dr. James Naismith in December 1891 in Springfield, Massachusetts to condition young athletes during cold months. It consisted of peach baskets and a soccer style ball. -
Founded
The league NBA, was founded in New York and originally named as the Basketball Association of America and took it's current name 5 years later in 1949. -
FIRST GAME!
The first official game of the BAA was between the Toronto Huskies and New York Knickerbockers. During the time there were only 11 teams. More than 7,000 fans attended. Fun fact : if you were taller than Toronto’s 6' 8" George Nostrand, you were granted free admission. -

Kenny Sailors became the first pro player to use the jump shot. -

The NBA, Lapchick says, has consistently earned the highest grades on both racial and gender inclusion; for 2015, the year of the most recent report, the NBA earned men’s pro sports’ only A+ for racial hiring practices, and a B+ for gender. -
TORONTO RAPTORS-Canada in the NBA
The Raptors, along with the Vancouver Grizzlies, played their first game in 1995, and were the first NBA teams based in Canada since the 1946–47 Toronto Huskies, though the Buffalo Braves had played a total of 16 regular season games at Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto from 1971 to 1975. They are now the only Canadian basketball team playing in the NBA. -

Sprite says goodbye
On February 27th , the NBA announced that Sprite's 28-year run will be over and be taken over by their number one rival, Pepsi. This is significant because of how long sprite (coca-cola) had been running the game and had been intercepted by Pepsi. -
Legend retires
Los Angeles Lakers' Kobe Bryant (aka the black mamba) retired on April 13, 2016.He played twenty seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers and was originally drafted by the Charlotte Hornets (Round: 1 / Pick: 13). He retired with 5 five championship rings as of 2014. He scored 81 points against Toronto Raptors on Jan 22 2006. Which is the second highest score in NBA and highest score in over four decades.
