The grandchildrens of Charlemagne divided the Frank Empire into 3 parts, this was the treaty of Verdun. Lothar became the ruler of Lorraine, Charles the Bald got the western part of the empire and Louis the German ruled the eastern part of the Frank Empire. This also meant the fall of the Frank empire.
