Timeline of the events leading up to the Civil War

    Declaration of Independance, Constitution, and Bill of Rights fail to address slavery.

    Due to these events failing to set a law for slavery, chaos followed up later in America's history, If they did address slavery, than maybe the civil war never would have happened and one of the worst events of our history never would have occured.
  • Patent of the Cotton Gin

    Patent of the Cotton Gin
    Eli Whitney patented the machine to abolish slavery, but all it did was give slaves more to do. This gave slaves the responcibility to control this machine to produce cotton at a faster rate.
  • Missouri Compromise

    Missouri Compromise
    This compromise set the boundries for future issues to follow. For example, the Compromise of 1850 was created to even out the states while sticking to the basic principles of the Missouri Compromise.
  • Nat Turner's Rebellion

    Nat Turner's Rebellion
    Although it was meant to start an uprising against whites, it did exactly the opposite. It gave slave owners the right to kill slaves, and restrict even more rights against slaves.

    This book was the first media representation of the horrors of slavery. This gave Notherners a reason to fight the south for the freedom of slaves.

    Dred Scott Decision
    Northerners were outraged at this decision, as it was illogical and lacked any morals. This also encouraged Northerners to fight for the freedom of slaves.
  • John Brown's Raid of Harper's Ferry

    John Brown's Raid of Harper's Ferry
    After these events, John Brown was required to be executed for treason. Due to this, people of the north saw Brown as a martyr, and were encouraged to fight for the freedom of slaves.
  • South Carolina secedes from the United States

    South Carolina secedes from the United States
    This lead other Southern states to secede as well, which caused to halfs of America to become fully 2 halfs. This also led to the beginning of the "war" part of the Civil War.

    This gave the south a sense of insecurity, knowing that they are the minority. This leads to the south thinking about leaving America.
