Battle of Fort Sumter

The battle of Sumter was located in Sumter, South Carolina when Major Robert Anderson led his 85 Union soldiers to the Charelston Harbor. The shootout ended April 13th at 2:30 PM. There were no war caused deaths. Vital to the war because this battle had no deaths and was the first battle. -
Robert E. Lee Declines
The History Place
Robert E. Lee (son of a Revolutionary War hero), and was a 25 year veteran (very accomplished) was offered to be in command of the Union Army. -He declinded the offer. I find this important due to the fact the Union could've possibly won way sooner if they had Robert's help. -
New Commander

President Lincoln hires a new commander of the Department of the Potomac (the largest Union army). McClellan took McDowell's place.I find this very important because McClellan led the Union to many victories. -
President Lincolin's Tragedy

Grief hit President Lincoln as his son, Willie (11 yrs old), dies of a fever. It was said to possibly be water pollution. This was water pollution in his own house; not to mention the White House. This is an important factor because it shows how unsanitary things wer back then and how a lot of people didn't die of war-related causes. -
No More Wooden Ships
The History Place
The Confederate Clan "Merrimac" sunk two of the Union's wooden ships. From then and there, no wooden ships were really used during the Civil War. This is important to show what kind of "newer technology" of non-wood boats were being used in this era. -
Shiloh

The Confederate surprised the Union --Gen. Ulysses Grant's unready troops. 13,000 Unioners were killed and 10,000 Confederate people crippled. This was more than all the previous American wars combined. The battle in Shiloh (Tennessee River) ended the next day April 7th. This is vital to the Civil War because it is a well-known battle because of all the deaths. -
Antietam

This very day is known as the bloodiest day in U.S. Military History. The Confederate armies with General Robert. E. Lee were stopped at Antietam in Maryland by Mclellan's army and many other elite Union forces. By the time night hit, over 26,00 men were perished. The Confederate side fled. Definatly a vital part of the Civil war because this was the bloodiest day in U.S Military History...serious violence. -
Emancipation Proclamation
The History Place
President Lincolin announces the final Emancipation Proclamation. This frees all of the slavery in the Confederacy. The war to help the Union is now starting become harder than thought to fight. This is REALLY important in the Civil War becuase it shows how the Union NEVER gave up to get rid of slavery. -
Suffering South
The History Place
The South begins to suffer as General Lee's "right arm" Stonewall Jackson dies of his battle wounds. He played a very important part in helping win battles with General Robert E. Lee. I say this is vital because Lee's main man is gone which gives the Union an advantage. -
The Battle Chancellorsville
The History Place
The Union army led by General Hooker was impressively defeated by Lee's Confederate army. I say impressive because the Union outnumbered the Confederacy by 70,000 and they still won! The Union gave up this battle March 4th, 1863. This is an important battle to show Lee's expertise in combat with such an unadvantage. -
Battle of Gettysburg

During this time in Pennslyvanis, there is a major plot twist. The Confederates lose this 3-day war. (ended July 3rd) I guess Lee's army isn't so "invincible after all. This is a VERY important battke because this really helped the Union win this war. -
Vicksburg
The History Place
This is when the final part of the Confederacy surrendered on the Mississippi River. They surrender to General Grant. The Union is now in control of the Mississippi. Vital to the Civil war because the Union really starts doing the good damage by taking control of the Confederacy. -
Riots
The History Place
Anti-draft riots struck out in New York City. These riots consisted of poor white people who killed over 120 blacks and caused $2 million in damage. This was put to an end on the 16th of July when soldiers of Gettysburg came back. I find this important because this was right after all the Union's ownership in-power and shows there were definatly some stubborn people at the time. -
Lincolin's Encounter

The President encounters an abolitionlist Frederick Douglass. Douglass pushes "full equality" for all Union African-American troops. Lincoln with the abolitionist. Definatly an important factor because this war was about the 'Negroes' joining the army in the Union for freedom. -
President's Devestation

That evening in a movie theater, President Lincoln was shot and never gained counciuosness. He passed away at 7:22 AM the next day. His murderer was John Booth. This tragic event was extremely important due to the fact Lincoln won the war then was killed.
