Antoin Lavoisier
Lavoisier purposed the Combustion theory was based on sound mass measurements. He also named oxygen. Lavoisier created the Law od Conservation of Mass. He represents the start of modern day chemistry. -
John Dalton
Dalton created the Law of Multple Proportions which lead to the development of the Atomic Theory. He also develped the concept of the mole and created the system of symbols to name the elements. He recongnized the existense of atoms of atoms of elements and that compounds form a union between atoms. -
AMedeo Avogadro
Avogadro invented the Avogradro's Hypothesis and a solution to the atomic weight problem. -
Joseph Gay-Lussac
Gay-Lussac created the Law od Combining Volumes -
J.J. Thomas
Thomas identifid the negatively charged electrons and urposed that the electron was a part of all matter. He also made the "Plum Pudding" model of the atoms. -
Dimitri Mendeleev
Mendeleev created the Periodic Law and developed the first Periodic table. -
Robert Millikan
Millikan determined the unit of charge through his oil drop expirement. In his oil drop expirement he sprayed oil through a perfume nozle. By spraying it through the nozle, it would pick up extra electrons. The drops were placed under a microscope. When light showed upon them, it looked like stars. The drops were weighted and once they were balanced the oil would stay suspended between the plates. -
Ernst Rutherford
Rutherford created the nuclear atom and purposed the third atomic particled called the neautron. -
Henry Moseley
Moseley stated that the relations was a function of the positive charge on the nucleas. He also rearagned the periodic table by atomic number. -
Wilhelm Rontgen
Rontgen found out certain chemicals glowed when being exposed to the cathode rays. He discored x-rays. -
Albert Einstein
Einstein created the theory of relativity and hypothosized the particles of light. He made the basis of nuclear energy. -
Niels Bohr
Bohr explained the atomic structure and built a model of an atom with an orbital shell. -
Enrico Fermi
Fermi sucessfully created the first chain reaction which released enery from the atoms in the nucleus. -
Murray Gell-Mann
Gell-Mann purposed that the quark model particles have no structure which means they cannot be split. -
Aristotle
Aristotle believed in the four elements; air, earth, fire, and water. He also stated the no mattter how many times you cut matter in half, there is always a smaller piece of matter. -
