The Navigation Act
Although this Act was passed in the 1600's it became strictly enforced in the 1760's. The Navigation Act was meant to restrict trade between America and other countries besides England. The colonists were obviously mad, so this is one of the reasons that the 13 colonies united. The British government passed this act, so they had a good reaction to it. -

The Sugar Act
The Sugar act cut sugar tax, but allowed taxation to many things that were not taxed before, like wine, cloth, coffee and silk. American Shippers had to do a very long procedure to secure their goods. The intent was to stop people who were evading tax and smuggling goods. The Americans were very mad because this was causing some economic problems, so they boycotted items from England. The English government didn't like the outcome of the act because of the boycott, so they repealed it. -

The Stamp Act
The stamp was meant to increase income to Britain, and the colonies were taxed on papers. This included legal documents, newspapers, and even playing cards. The Colonists retaliated with the Sons of Liberty, who threatened, tarred, and feathered the tax collectors. The British government eventually repealed the act because the colonists were protesting. -

The Declaratory Act
The Declaratory Act said that the British government could enforce any law they wanted to on the colonists. The Colonists were very mad about this act, but they did not do anything. Because there was no colonist reaction, the British government did not repeal or do anything about the act until 1964. -

The Townshend Act
The Townshend act put taxes on paper, paints, silk, tea, and glass. The Colonists did not approve of the act and they boycotted goods from England because of it. They also protested to the British soldiers, which caused the Boston Massacre. The British government repealed the act because they needed trade wit the American Colonies.
