Proclamation
This act stopped colonists to expand settlement past the Appalachian Mountains. The colonists rebelled and did not follow this rule and continued to settle west of the mountains. The British Government was taking control of the west. -
The Sugar Act
The Sugar Act was enacted by the British Parliament. This act stopped the trade of goods such as alcohol, coffee, sugars, etc. into the Americas. This caused an outrage from the colonists, they protested against the act. The British Government favored this because it increased their profit from the trading. -
The Stamp Act
This act imposed taxes on colonists. Colonists were not happy about the Stamp Act and quickly opposed it. They refused to pay taxes, rioted, and attacked tax collectors. The British Government was relieved to find a way to help pay for the troops stationed in the colonies during the seven year war. -
Declaratory Act
This act was to assert authority of the British Government to tax the colonists. The colonists saw that this act was hinting at more acts coming in the future. They were outraged. The British Government enacted this Act to set authority on its colonists. -
Townshend Act
This act was used to pay the salaries of colonial government workers. Colonists were mad about this act and boycotted by not buying good. They also rioted and protested. The British Government sent naval and military officials to Boston to help enforce this act.
