Publick Occurences
Publick Occurences was the first colonial newspaper and was invented in 1690 by Ben Harris. Because Harris didnt recieve premission from the government to print a newspaper they ordedred authorities to burn every coby published. -
Morse Code
In 1836 Samuel Morse developed the Morse code, a way to send sound codes long distances using a telegraph device. Before this was invented, letters, carried by messengers on horse back was the quickest way to send a message long distance. -
Telephone
The telephone was invented by two inventors named Elisha Gray and Alexander Bell. This is a huge leap in mass media because it allowed people to speak in real time. -
CompuServe
CompuServe (CIS) was the first major pioneer in commercial online service. Using a "technolgy" we know as dial-up. CIS was the only major online service before services such as AOL took over the market with cheaper subscriptions. CompServe 2000 still operates today, 44 years later. -
E-mail
In 1971 a computer engineer named Ray Tomlinson sent the first E-Mail using a program called SNDMSG. Although this achievement went unnoticed at first, it was soon a day to day way to communicate for the scientists and engineneers that designed it. -
Home Computers
Home computers were first released by IBM in 1977 but did not become common in households until the 1980s. They were typically used for video games and data entry. -
Instant Messaging
Instant Messaging came on the scene in the early 1990's when people began using online chatrooms. It wasnt until 1997 that AOL developed AIM the popular software that many used at that time. -
MySpace
MySpace was launched in August of 2003 and was one ot the frist social networks that allowed you to make a profile that reflects yourself. Since then many social networks have surfaced including Facebook, Twitter, and instagram. -
YouTube
In 2005 YouTube was founded and since has become the biggest video sharing website online. YouTube now uploads a billion videos a day and is still unprofitable. -
Mobile Connection
In early 2001 mobile phone networks developed phones that could temporarily browse the web. Through technological developments we can now surf the web anytime we want, including social network websites.
