Lee was born in 1945 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Lee graduated in from Berkeley with a degree in electrical engineering and computer science.

With the help of Efrem Lipkin, Mark Szpakowski and others, Lee developed the Community Memory Project using a Scientific Data Systems SDS-940 mainframe computer. He developed a public bulletin board system that was installed at Berkeley.

After the Community Memory Project, Lee created a most cost efficient and less expensive version. This then lead to the Pennywhistle Modem which became widely popular for early personal computer users.

Felsenstein was one of the first members of the Homebrew Computer Club, which was an early computer hobbyist group to share ideas. Steve Jobs was also a member of this group where he then created the first prototype for the Apple-1in 1776.

Lee then became a design consultant for the premature Processor Technology Corporation. Here he developed systems for use with the Altair 8800.

Lee, Gordon French, and Bob Marsh developed the SOL-20 computer. They sold more than 10,000 between 1977 and 1979.

Lee and Adam Osborne founded Osborne Computer Corporation in 1980 where they designed the companies first portable computer. It was inspired by the NoteTaker computer and came with software worth $1,795. They sold 125,000 units in 1982.

Later on, Lee founded the Free Speech Movement Archives.

Lee was a member of the Research Staff, Interval Research Corp., in Palo Alto, California.

During his time researching at Interval Research Corp. he participated in the creation of: portable multi-channel data logger, 2D pattered game board, real-time video processing system, breath-sensitive 2D sensor, "Pocket Watch" video display for wearable camcorders, and many others. The research was closed by Paul Allen in April 2000.

Lee then became the president of Golemics, Inc. where he designed and built and image capturing system that utilized electrostatic pickup. He also wrote a complex machine-language program for the PIC_based controller.

Lee was Senior Electrical Engineer at Pemstar Pacific Consultants in San Jose, California. Later on in 2005 he was laid off for his lack of work.

Since 2005 until today, Lee works as CTO at Fonly LLC in Palo Alto, California

Lee designed, laid out, assembled and fix errors in the electronics for iOS (iPhone/iPad) attachment for AK Associates in Sunnyvale, California.
