A group of students in a district of Colombia was denied an education because of many challenges they faced regarding their ability. This law helped children by saying no child could be denied an education regardless of their mental state. -
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973
A law that forbids organizations/employers to exclude/deny anyone with a disability an equal opportunity to receive program benefits and services. This helped in that if you had a disability and were afraid of being rejected, you couldn't be because it was against the law. -
The Equal Educational Opportunities Act
A law the addressed no discrimination against a student's gender, race, color, or nationality and requiring public schools to provide for students who don't speak English. This helped students in that all students no matter gender, race, etc could go to school and get an education. -
Education of All Handicapped Children Act of 1975
A law that all public schools must provide appropriate educational services for all children with disabilities of the ages 3-21. This has helped all kids of the ages 3-21 get their education. -
1986: Amendments to the Education of All Handicapped Children Act
A law that requires the states that offer interdisciplinary educational services to disabled toddlers, infants, and their families to receive financial help from grants. -
1990: Individuals With Disabilities Education Act (IDEA)
A law that ensures schools serve the needs of students with disabilities. This helped by kids with disabilities got to learn as well not just those without a disability. -
Amendments to the Individuals With Disabilities Education Act of 1997
A law that explains who is in the IEP meetings as well as makis procedures for IEP documentation. It also makes states responsible for tracking the growth/performance of each student in the special education department of each state. -
2001: No Child Left Behind Act of 2001
A law that involves improving public primary/secondary schools in performance in increased accountability for schools, the district, and states. -
Individuals With Disabilities Education Improvement Act of 2004
A law that mandates special education and related services for children with disabilities who could qualify for services under one of the 13 categories of disabilities.
