    DJ Kool Herc was known as the founder of hip-hop when he extended the beat of recordings using turntables and a mixer to fade them. This occurred in 1973 in the Bronx of New York. This would eventually be known as the start of hip-hop music
  • Rapper's Delight

    Rapper's Delight
    The first rap song was produced that would go by the name Rapper's Delight. This was a single track by the Sugarhill Gang and produced by Sylvia Robinson. This track is responsible for introducing hip-hop music to a wide audience. This track reached the top 40 in the United States.
  • Rick Rubin

    Rick Rubin
    Rubin became the first to have his own production company. At the time, he was still at University and he had everything set up in his dorm room. This production company would be called Def Jam Recordings

    N.W.A.’s debut, “Straight Outta Compton,” sells more than 500,000 copies. This group had some powerhouses, which included Ice Cube, Eazy E, Dr. Dre, and Arabian Prince who have all had a great impact on hip hop.
