    Floral Designers
    They use their knowledge of different flowers to create beautiful arrangements. Floral designers have to know a lot about flowers such as if they are toxic to animals, knowing their properties, how to grow/cut them, and what flowers compliment each other.
    Where it started
    Floral arrangements go back to 2,800 B.C. when early Egyptians designed floral pieces for burials, offerings, and pieces for large events. They were only used for royalty and considered a luxury.

    The Victorian era
    Lasted from 1830-1901 and floral designs were formal, lavish, and showy. At this time flowers were everywhere. The flowers would be arranged to be carried during events however there were also many with draping fern or ivy. Flowers were also used to scent clothes and as hair accessories.
    Flowers Used
    Tulips, Carnations, lilies, daisies, peonies, china asters,
    bleeding hearts, and baby's breath.
    Flowers also had many different meanings according to the type and color.
  • The Art Deco Period

    The Art Deco Period
    Lasted from 1920 to 1930 and these designs seem to be known for having a cascading design. This style was influenced jazz music and the industrial age. They are also known to strong patterns. Corsages were pretty popular during the Art Deco Period.
    Flowers Used
    Calla lilies, tulips, lavender, and wisteria.
    This style became popular again in the 1960s
  • Free Form Expression

    Lasted from the 1950s to the 1960s. Floral arrangements started to become more expressive and showed feeling. Many different materials were used and there was a larger range in texture this created arrangements that looked closer to art than nature.

    lily grass, branches, spruce, pine

    Was popular in the 1960s and 70s. Tight, stiff looking patterns were everywhere. Floral arrangements started to include lines. They were put in a dish or bowl shaped container. It was considered a clean-cut sculptural design.

    Technology has greatly impacted the floral industry. It has brought many benefits one being delivery. Instead of customers walking to the florists to get the bouquets they could simply be delivered to them. Before if people lived further away it would have been more difficult to get them. You could now order online. It's also easier for us to know what we want due to pictures and videos on the internet.

    During Covid prices in the floral industry went up in order for florists to make the money they needed. Because of shortages businesses

    started to collaborate and others changed how customers order to being able to pick what they want based on availability. Many businesses made themselves more present online. While Covid was rough people wanted to support smaller businesses to ensure they could keep going. This meant some florists benefited from the pandemic.
