Life and death
Charles Darwin was born in 1809, in Shrewsbury England. Throughout his was a scientist and philosopher was most accredited on his theory of evolution based on natural selection. “It is not the strongest of the species that survives,
not the most intelligent that survives.
It is the one that is the most adaptable to change.” (Charles Darwin). -
Shrewsbury Anglican School
Darwin did not like the traditional teachings where science was something to be condemned. He dabbled in chemistry at a young age earring him the nickname “gas” by his peers. -
Edinburgh University
Darwin was sent by his father at 16 to study medicine at Edinburgh University in 1825. He stayed for two years but did not learn much of medicine. Instead he learned about freethinking ideas such as human and animals sharing facial features and other thinks that go against conservative views. -
Beagle Voyage
Darwin embarked on a journey in South America to collect fossil samples and to study the current life of the region. The similarities between the old fossils and new specimens this lead Darwin to the path towards evolution by natural selection. This voyage was a key part in his life and his studies. -
On the origin of Species
“Thus, from the war of nature, from famine and death, the most exalted object which we are capable of conceiving. There is grandeur in this view of life, with its several powers, having been originally breathed into a few forms or into one; and that, whilst this planet has gone cycling on according to the fixed law of gravity, from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved.” (Charles Darwin).
