Proclamation of 1763
This act had limited the colonists westward expansion in order to not have tensions with the Native Americans. The response to this act was that the colonists did not like the fact that the British were telling them what to do. -
Currency Act
This act prohibited American colonies from issuing their own currency which had angered many American colonists. -
Sugar Act
The reason why this act was passed was to pay for the defenses of the colonies before the French and Indian War. Taxes were placed on wine and other goods that had to pass through Britain. The colonists started to protest against the British because they did not like the thought of this act. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act was an act that placed taxes on any form of documentation, playing cards and marriage licenses. The colonists also didn't like the idea of this act and it made tensions between the Crown and colonies rise. -
The Quartering Act
This act stated that the colonists would have to provide the British troops with shelter and food, even in their own homes if it is needed. The colonists believed that this was not fair and unacceptable to themselves and their families. -
The Declaratory Act
This act basically said that the British Parliament had the right to place taxes on the colonies on whatever they needed and whenever they needed it. The colonists did not like the idea that the British could do whatever they wanted, like putting taxes on them without their consent. -
Townshend Act
This act was an act that taxed goods imported to the American Colonies. This act was also named after Charles Townshend. The way this act made the colonists feel was, by them protesting that their rights were being violated because of being taxed. -
Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was a confrontation which British soldiers shot and killed several people while being harassed by a mob in Boston. This made the colonist feel like this wasn't their fault because they were being taxed unfairly. -
Committee of Correspondence
This committee was created to keep the colonist informed of British actions and to plan colonial countermeasures. This made the colonists feel "good" so they wanted to help Samuel Adams, but it didn't work out. -
Tea Act ( Additional )
This act had taxed people for their tea that they purchased. This act made some of the colonists angry because they didn't like the fact that Britain was taxing and setting prices to their tea. -
Boston Tea Party
The American colonists were frustrated and angry at Britain for imposing taxation without representation, so they dumped chests of tea into the harbor. The colonist were upset so this showed the British government that they wouldn't take taxation without representation and fought for their independence. -
Coercive Act ( Intolerable Act )
Upset by the Boston Tea Party, the British Parliament enacts the Coercive Acts, to the outrage of American Patriots. This act brought back the anger the colonists had stored up inside them from the Quartering Act. -
Quebec Act
The Quebec Act instituted a permanent administration in Canada and replaced the temporary government it had before. The colonist were angry about the Quebec Act. It showed the colonist that the British were not afraid to restrict colonial governments.
