Virginia was settled by The London Company and was made for making a profit. It is also home to the lost colony, of Roanoke Island. -
Massachusetts
Massachusetts was established by William Bedford and John Winthrop and was founded for not believing the ways of the church of England. -
New York
New York was founded by Peter Minuit and the Dutch. It was made for profitable fort. This colony was originally named Amsterdam but the Duke of York renamed it New York. -
Maryland
Maryland was settled by Cecil Calvert. Maryland always fought over their boarder, named Mason-Dixon line, with Pennsylvania. -
Rhode Island
Rhode Island established by Roger Williams and was created for not agreeing that church and government belong together. Williams bought land from Native Americans and let white men of different religions vote. -
New Hampshire
Ferdinando Georges and John Mason received New Hampshire as a land grant. New Hampshire officially gained independence in 1741. -
Delaware
Delaware was founded by Peter Minuit in 1638. It was settled to make money and used for access to the ocean. Delaware was originally owned by the Dutch but then was claimed by many other nations. -
Pennsylvania
In order for King Charles II to pay off his debt to William Penn, he gave him land in the new world. This was the first ever planned city in America. -
Georgia
Georgia was settled by James Oglethrope and was founded for a safe home for debtors. Altough not a lot of debtors came but instead filled with the poor of Britain. -
Connecticut
Connecticut was established by Thomas Hooker and was made for the easier farmering land. This was the first plan of goverment written in the U.S.!
