The first world war often referred to as the Great War. Was thought to be the war that would end all wars. There wasn't suppose to be any more wars after this one but World War 2 was on it's way. Over 70 million people were mobilized during the war. -
Lusitania
The Lusitania was a British ocean liner that sank in WW1. On the afternoon of May seventh, a German U-Boat torpedoed the Lusitania eleven miles off the southern coast of Ireland inside the declared "zone of war". A second, unexplained, internal explosion sent the Lusitania to the bottom in 18 minutes, causing the deaths of 1,198 passengers and crew. -

First Woman Elected to Congress(Rankin)
Jeannette Rankin was the first woman elected to congress in 1916. She was a member of the house by the state of Montana representing the republican party. In 1940, she won a second term in the house of representatives. -
Selective Service Act
The Selective Service Act was authorized the federal government to raise a national army for the American entry into World War 1. It was envisioned in December 1916 and brought to President Woodrow Wilson's attention shortly after the break in relations with Germany in February 1917. The Act itself was drafted by Hugh S. Johnson after the United States entered World War I by declaring war on Germany. -
Espionage Act
The Espionage Act is a United States federal law passed shortly after the United States entered World War 1. It has been amended multiple time over years. It prohibited interference with military operations or recruitment, to prevent insubordination in the military, and to prevent the support of United States enemies during wartime. -
