    Peace of Augsburg

    First legal form that allows you to be protestant or catholic. Local rulers decide which religion it is, and if you do not like it, move. This helped get unity within germany; at least for a little bit.

    French wars of Religion

    French calvinism posed a threat to the rich catholic families, and a war broke out after the calvinists attempted to get tolerance from the ruler of France.
  • Aug 24, 1572

    Bartholomew's Day Massacre

    Mob violence from the Catholics of France that killed a large amount of Huguenots. This was on a religious day and lowered the Morale of the Huguenots.
  • Edict of Nantes

    King Henry IV of France gives the Calvinists (Huguenots) of France rights to the nation, mainly for equality.
  • Period: to

    30 Years War

    War in germany after they tried to remove the Peace of Augsburg. It killed almost 60% of HRE's population, and eventually lead to the peace of the two religions.
  • Treaty of Westphalia

    A peace treaty that ended the 30 years war in the HRE, bringing peace and mourning for the 8 million that died.
