Age Of Exploration
Though Columbus was not the first to discover the New World, his landing in the New World in 1492 is important: it brought in an era of European exploration and settlement of the Americas. This is known as the Age of Exploration. During this age, European explorers searched for trade routes, overseas wealth, and adventures. -

Declaration of Independence
The Declaration of Independence is the actual name of a statement adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776. It announced that the thirteen American colonies, then at war with Great Britain, regarded themselves as 13 newly independent sovereign states, and no longer a part of the British Empire. Instead they formed a new nation—the United States of America. John Adams was a leader in pushing for independence. -
Lousiana Purchase is Concluded
In 1803, the United States purchased about 828,000,000 square miles of territory from France, What was known as the Louisiana Territory stretched from the Mississippi River in the east to the Rocky Mountains in the west then from the Gulf of Mexico in the south to the Canadian border in the north. -
Missouri Compromise
Also known as the Compromise of 1820. There was an effort to balance the power in Congress between slave and free states. The Missouri Compromise was passed in 1820 admitting Missouri as a slave state and Maine as a free state. -
The Election
In 1860, the Republicans nominated Abraham Lincoln for president. The Democrats didn't agree on a favorite candidate. The Democrats nominated Stephen Douglas, but the southerners found him too, lets say... average. They nominated John Breckinridge to run against Douglas and Lincoln. Lincoln became president because the proslavery faction had divided its votes between two candidates. -
Lincoln's Assasination
Abraham Lincoln Abraham Lincoln was a man who impressed many people, and caught their attention with his sense of humor. As always, he wasn’t liked by everyone, and one of those people was John Wilkes Booth. Lincoln’s death was well planned out. Booth thought that if he killed Lincoln, he would be considered a hero. Wrong. Booth shot Lincoln at Fords Theater on April 14th, 1865 while he was (the rest is on paper.) -
All US citizens over 20 could vote
By 1920, any US citizen over the age of 20 could vote. Whether you were a male or female, 20 years old or 40 years old.
