born in 1480 and died in April of 1527. He sailed under Spain and
Portugal. Sponsored by Spain he sailed from Spain around South America, discovering the Strait of Magellan. He would sail to the Philippines where he was killed, but his crew completed the trip in 1521. That journey was the first circumnavigation of the globe. -

Jacques was born in 1491 and died in 1557. He was the first person to sail the coast of st. Lawrance River, first in 1534, then in 1535, and finally in 1541-42. He was an explorer for France. -
