James Watt
he invented the Watt steam engine The first working steam engine had been patented in 1698 and by the time of Watt's birth, Newcomen engines were pumping water from mines all over the country
DISADVANTAGE-A steam engine has low efficiency.
ADVANTAGE- it made it where we could travel faster
we do use the steam engine and it also lead to other engines like the ones for cars, and airplanes. -
John Kay
. It allowed a single weaver to weave much wider fabrics, and it could be mechanized, allowing for automatic machine looms.
ADVANTAGE- The flying shuttle let weavers make cloth a lot faster than the
DISADVANTAGE-People were jealous of the idea and threatened the inventor, John Kay by trashing his house replaced weavers risking unemployment
We do not use the flying shuttle anymore , but it led to many other machines that make clothing faster -
James Hargreaves
. The device reduced the amount of work needed to produce cloth, with a worker able to work eight or more spools at once.
ADVANTAGE-it allowed more threads and yarn to be produced by less spinners resulting in meeting the thread and yarn expectations and demands at a faster rate.
DISADVANTAGE-high tendency to start it up.
We do not use the spinning jenny anymore but it influenced us to make a more advanced machine to produce cloth. -
Richard Arkwright
, a machine for carding cotton, Arkwright made improvements that produced a stronger yarn and required less physical labour.
ADVANTAGE-it created less labor for people
DISADVANTAGE- it starts up slow
We do not use it anymore but it influenced other inventors to make it better -
Samuel Compton
Samuel Crompton invented the spinning mule that combined the moving carriage of the spinning jenny with the rollers of the water frame.
ADVANTAGE-high delivery speeds; low yarn production costs
DISADVANTAGE-low yarn strength
We do not use the exact machine but we use simliar inventions that move faster but do the same thing -
Richard Trevithick
he invented the steam locomotive which was for transportation
DISADVANTAGE- it was slow and could malfunction
ADVANTAGE- you could move bigger things to other states quicker
we still use trains to travel and move big cargo -
George Stephenson
he invented the steam locomotive,Both fuel and water supplies are carried with the locomotive, either on the locomotive itself or in wagons
ADVANTAGE- it moved big stuff to other locations
DISADVANTAGE-it was slow
we still use them with trains , used as the most common worldwide means of producing electric power -
Robert Fulton
he made it possible for the steam boat to travel
ADVANTAGE- it could move people and there stuff to islands or other states
DISADVANTAGE-could sink or malfunction and pollution
we still use the steam boat for tours and to move cars and people to another island or state -
Louis Pasteur
He showed that food spoils because of microorganisms and invented pasteurization, which was originally used to prevent wine and beer from souring. If that wasn't enough, he also came up with a rabies vaccine.
ADVANTAGE- you get cured from rabies and you know when food spoils
DISADVANTAGE- made people paranoid and caused it where they check there food , and throw away perfectly good food
we still use this and know this and that is why we have fridges -
Henry Bessemer
developed the first process for manufacturing steel inexpensi
ADVANTAGE- could build taller buildings
DISADVANTAGE-very hard to build with
we still use steel all the time with our new skyscrapers -
Thomas Edison
he invented electricity and the light bulb and he was one of the most well known inventors for it
DISADVANTAGE- u can get shocked and die
ADVANTAGE- you can see in places that are dark
we still use electricity and light bulb all over the world -
Nikola Telsa
t Electrical Exhibition a new invention that he called a “teleautomaton”. The invention was the first ever radio controlled device in the form of a miniature boat
DISADVANTAGE- static in back round of radio
ADVANTAGE- you can listen to people from far away
you can hear other people from other countries
we still use radios around the world they are mainly in our cars
