  • Queen Elizabeth I started trade with India

    Britian ruled Calcutta.
    Indian people wanted to learn English because they thought the world would open up to them and they could travel to English speaking countries
  • English came to the Caribbean with the slave trade

    British traded goods for slaves in West Africa. They sold the slaves in the Caribbean and brought back sugar, tobacco and cotton to Britain

    The British and the slaves spoke Creole with the each other. It is mix of English and their native language.
  • British prisoners came to Australia

    ”The First Fleet” arrived with prisoners. They were not allowed to return to England.
    The criminals used a slang called ”flash”. Many words are still used in Australia today.
