  • Navigation Act

    Navigation Act
    -This was an attempt to strengthened the economy, it regulated trade and manufacturing, it wasn’t very enforced so smuggling was common.
    -This contributed to the anti-British sentiment that began the revolution.
  • French and Indian war ends

    French and Indian war ends
    • The native Americans and French and defeated by English.
    • Britain’s treasurey is now completely empty and thinks that the colonists should pay.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    • This is the first tax on the colonists. It taxed any printed material like papers and pamphlets. It made colonists more hostile but, parliament kept taxing them because Britain was still in debt.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
    • British soldiers were in Boston and fired on the colonists who were throwing rocks and sticks at them. This caused more tension between them and was a turning point leading to the revolution.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    • Tax was placed on tea that was now imported from Britain.
    • The colonists didn’t like this so they found a way to show Britain how they felt.
  • Coercive/ Intolerable Acts

    Coercive/ Intolerable Acts
    • To gain back authority, parliament placed four acts on the colonists. These seemed intolerable. Anti-British feelings were growing so the colonists sent their representatives to show unity and discuss how to approach the British.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
    • The colonists seized a cargo ship and dumped the British tea into the harbor to protest the Tea Act.
    • Due to tension, the colonists sent representatives to Philadelphia to meet to discuss their next move.
  • 1st Continental Congress

    1st Continental Congress
    • Due to Intolerable Acts, the colonies representatives met to talk about how to approach Britain’s moves against Massachusetts. They believed war was coming and wanted to hold another meeting if the conflict hadn’t improved.
  • Second continental congress

    Second continental congress
    • This was the second meeting of the representatives, here George Washington was appointed commander and the continental army was formed.
    • Took a step towards war and independence.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
    • British troops and colonists met and the first shot was fired. This is the beginning of the revolutionary war. The representatives had to meet a second time to discuss their plan of action.
  • Declaration of Independence is adopted

    Declaration of Independence is adopted
    • Leaders signed the document and declared independence from Britain. This also told the colonists their liberties and freedom.
  • Battle of Saratoga

    Battle of Saratoga
    • First victory over Britain. Convinced France and other nations to join the war. This was a push towards victory.
  • Winter In Valley Forge

    Winter In Valley Forge
    • A severe winter which tested the soldiers and hundreds died of disease.
    • It reshaped and unified the forces to deafest Britain.

  • Battle of Yorktown

    Battle of Yorktown
    • Now with France’s help the British were forced to surrender and war effort fell apart this was the last major battle. This ended military operations in the war.
  • The Constitution is written

    The Constitution is written
    • The Articles of Confederation were found weak so a new constitution was drafted .
    • It was the new framework and soon to be in acted.
  • The Constitution is Adopted

    The Constitution is Adopted
    - The new constitution was enacted which included limited government and separation of powers.
