In 1955 Jonas Salk released his polio vaccine to the public. This influenced the American Dream because it lead the way for other medical breakthroughs in the future in order for people to live a better, healthier life. -

Martin Luther King Jr.'s March on Washington
In 1963 Martin Luther King Jr. lead the March on Washington and gave his famous “I Have a Dream” speech in order to fight for civil rights. This affected the American Dream because it resulted in greater change in the future for African Americans. -
The Civil Rights Act of 1964
This act was passed in order to make discrimination illegal. It also influenced the American Dream because so much time and energy was put into ending segregation by people such as Martin Luther King Jr, and their goal was finally accomplished. The act lead to new, fairer opportunities for African Americans. -
Thurgood Marshall
Thurgood Marshall was the first African American Supreme Court Justice in 1967. This shaped the American Dream because African Americans were finally able to have the same opportunities as white people freely. -
The End of the Space Race
In July of 1969, the United States won the Space Race when Neil Armstrong became the first man to step foot on the moon. This influenced the American Dream because nationalism began to grow among the people. -
The Paris Peace Treaty of 1973
The United States officially pulled out of the Vietnam War by the Paris Peace Treaty, shaping the American Dream because many disagreed with America’s involvement in this war.
