    Yale University was established in Connecticut.

  • New Jersey is founded

    New Jersey is founded as a royal colony by Queen Anne. During this time, it was divided as into two provinces: West Jersey and East Jersey.

  • Queen Anne's War

    During this war, a Massachusetts colony was attacked. 56 were killed and over 100 were captured.

  • The first regular newspaper

    The first regular newspaper in the colonies published its first edition.

  • Queen Anne's War Ends

    This war ends with the Treaty of Utrecht, giving Nova Scotia to Britain.

  • Dummer's War

    Dummer's War is started when confrontations between New England colonists and the Wabanaki tribe were happening. The Wabanaki were allied with France.

  • Georgia is founded

    James Oglethorpe founded the colony of Georgia. It was founded for criminals to pay off their debts.

    Poor Richard's Almanac is published for the first time by Benjamin Franklin. It went on to be very successful.

    George Whitfield has his first visit to North America. His sermons sparked the First Great Awakening.

    The first battle of this war was fought. New France attacked the British fort, Fort Canso.

  • The Lightning Rod

    Benjamin Franklin invents the lightning rod after proving lightning is electricity by flying a kite during a thunderstorm.

  • The Attack of Fort Duquesne

    George Washington and his troops attack the French fort, Fort Duquesne.

  • The Battle of Fort Necessity

    The Battle of Fort Necessity was the last battle of the French and Indian War. The French and Indian War ended with a peace document.

  • British relocate Acadians

    The British decide to relocate over 11,000 Acadians from Nova Scotia.

  • France gives Spain Louisiana

    France gives Spain Louisiana. After 38 years, Spain returns Louisiana to France

  • French and Indian War ends

    The French and Indian War ends with a peace treaty that cedes Canada and a big portion of America to the English.

  • The Sugar Act

    The Sugar Act is passed. This placed tariffs on sugar, molasses, lumber, and alcohol.

  • The Stamp Act and its Congress

    The Stamp Act is passed. The Stamp Act put tariffs on stamps that were needed for legal documents. A Stamp Act Congress was made and so was the Declaration of Rights.

    These acts placed taxes on tea, glass, paper, etc. The Townshend Act was repealed, but the Tea Act wasn't.

  • The Boston Massacre

    The Boston Massacre was a confrontation between Boston colonists and British troops. This event boosted many colonists reason for war.

  • The first newspaper in New York

    The Albany Gazette is New York's first newspaper. It was being published until 1845.

  • The Committee of Correspondence

    Samuel Adams organized the Committee of Correspondence. This group was important in starting the American Revolution.
