This is when suicide atacks started The lsraeli army, trained to fight regular armies, was not well prepared to respond to these kinds of attacks so this caused many to die. -
The oslo accords
agreements that began in 1993 when lsrael and the PLO signed a Declaration of Principles. This led to the creation of the Palestinian Authority which was responsible for administering the territory under its control. This left lsrael the right to defend itself and its citizens. The Oslo Accords were also supposed to be an interim agreement that would lead to a permanent settlement with lsrael giving up land for peace. -

the battle of Gaza
there was great tension and conflict between Hamas and the PLO Fatah since Hamas won the Palestinian election. Hamas was attacking the PLO members in Gaza. Hamas now controls Gaza and the Palestinian Authority controls the West Bank. -
the 2006 Lebanon war
Hezbollah is an organization trying to destroy isreal and is heavily supported by Syria and Lebanon. On july 11 2006 it crossed the Lebanon border into isreal and attacked an army unit. They killed 8 of the soldiers and kidnapped 2 who were later killed. While this was going on they were bombing cities in isreal. Hezbollah used a human shield strategy by putting its fighters in civilian homes. This caused many civilians to be killed and lots of destruction to the homes. -
hamas is elected
Palestinians elected a Hamas member to the Palestinian Authority's legislature over the PLO's Fatah party. Hamas calls for the destruction of lsrael and the killing of Jews. The group has claimed responsibility for hundreds of terrorist attacks. -
The Gaza War
lsrael attacked Hamas targets in Gaza to stop rocket attacks on lsrael and to disrupt terrorist weapons smuggling. This caused many soldiers and civilians to be killed. -
Gaza Flotilla lncident
lsrael and Egypt began a blockade of Gaza. They said all goods are to be inspected before entering Gaza to prevent Hamas from smuggling in weapons.six ships set sail to break the blockade. lsrael informed the ships that they couldnt go into Gaza, but they could stay at the port of Ashdod where their cargo would be inspected goods would be shipped into Gaza. The ships refused. lsraeli commandos boarded the ships. the commandos were attacked with iron bars and knives. -
Arab Sprinq
this is when citizens in Arab states started to protest against autocratic and oppressive governments. protesters traveled all over the Arab world and protested. The Tunisian president left the country on January 14,2011. Then The Egyptian President resigned on February 11. The impact of these events are still unclear.
