    Magna Carta

    Magna Carta
The Magna Carta is a government document created by angry nobles in England. The Nobles were treated very poorly, which resulted with them creating the Magna Carta. The Magna Carta limited power from the King and protected the rights of the nobles and the people. The Magna Carta was successful and did as it was supposed to. I feel like it was successful and positive because the Nobles got what they deserved.
  • Mayflower Compact

    Mayflower Compact
The Mayflower Compact is an agreement between individuals written by pilgrims from England. A group of pilgrims went off to the new world from England and when they arrived they needed a set of rules for themselves to follow. The pilgrims followed their rules and created a successful direct democracy. I feel that the pilgrims did a good job creating rules for themselves, and giving a starting point to democracy.
  • English Bill of Rights

    English Bill of Rights
The English Bill of rights is a government document created by the Parliament in England stating that the monarch can't get rid of the Parliament's power and rights. It limited the Monarch's power, while expanding the rights of the Parliament and the people. Without the English Bill of Rights Monarchs could make special laws that didn't apply to them, but after the document was made they didn't have that ability. I feel like it positively benefited England because the people got more rights
  • Cato's letters

    Cato's letters
Cato's letters are a collection of newspaper articles written by Cato the younger and Cato the elder in England. The articles were written to argue against the kings heavy handed rule. These letters were successful because they contributed to limiting the Kings power. I feel like this was very good because the Kings continued to become too powerful, but Cato the elder and younger were able to do something about it.
  • Mercantilism

    Mercantilism
The theory of mercantilism began in England when the country wanted to become richer. Mercantilism is the theory that a country should sell more goods than it buys. England used the colonies for cheap materials, and in return would sell expensive ones. I think that mercantilism is just a smart marketing skill, even if it seems bad of England to use it like this.
  • French and Indian War

    French and Indian War
The French and Indian war was long war between Great Britain and France that ended in 1763. Both sides of the war had Native American allies on them. The war was an attempt to see who would get the main ruling in North America. Britain ended up winning the war and getting a big war debt to pay, so they put more taxes on the colonies. I didn't expect England to have a huge debt to pay at the end of the war, and I don't think it's very right for them to have the colonists pay for it.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
The stamp act was an act that Great Britain put onto the Colonies. The act put taxes on the colonists for things like newspapers and legal documents. This made the colonists very upset. It resulted in Great Britain making more money. I think that it wasn't necassary for England to put all of these taxes on the colonies
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
The Declaratory Act was an act on the colonies stating that the Parliament had the right to tax and make decisions for the American colonies in all cases. It was made after the Parliament repealed the Stamp Act. It resulted with colonies having very little rights, and England having complete power over them. I think this is harsh of England to do, and I didn't expect England to have that kind of power.
  • Townshend act

    Townshend act
The Townshend act is a series of different laws that Great Britain put on the colonies. The act put new taxes onto the American colonies. The taxes were for goods imported to the colonies. The acts resulted with the Colonies resisting, which then led on to the Boston Massacre. I expected the Townshend act to result like this because it feels as if it is just another add on to the chaos.
  • Boston Massacre

    Boston Massacre
The Boston Massacre was a battle that happened in Boston between British soldiers and colonists. The British soldiers came to enforce the Townshend Act. Outrage occurred and some of Colonists ended up being killed by the British soldiers. I think this is something that got taken out of hand and resulted in something I didn't expect.
  • Tea act

    Tea act
The tea act was made by the Parliament in England onto the colonies. It stated that the company who gives the tea would go straight to the colonies. The colonists would have to pay an extreme amount of taxes. This resulted in the colonists being upset about the taxes. I wasn't surprised by the tea act because England had already been putting many taxes onto the Colonies.
  • Boston Tea Party

    Boston Tea Party
The Boston Tea Party was a protest in Boston with the goal of having less taxes from England. After many taxes that the British Government put onto the colonists, they were fed up and had to rebel. The colonists dressed up as Native Americans, went to the harbor and poured 342 chests of British tea into the harbor. It resulted with the intolerable act from England. I think that although it didn't go as planned, it was still a good attempt and a good start for the colonists getting independence.
  • Intolerable Act/Coercive act

    Intolerable Act/Coercive act
The Inolerable Act was another act from England onto the colonies. England created more laws, stating that it was now allowed for the British soldiers to search the colonists homes. The colonists hated this law so much, which is why they called it the intolerable acts. I think this law is going too far with England's power, but I did expect it.
  • First Continental Congress

    First Continental Congress
The First Continental Congress was a meeting of representatives in America. The meeting was a response to the intolerable acts. The meeting accomplished gaining power and knowledge in self-government. I think the First Continental Congress was very important because it marked a beginning of a self-government in America.
  • Second Continental Congress

    Second Continental Congress
The Second Continental Congress was a meeting involving the colonial leaders, that was held in Philadelphia. The colonial leaders debated on whether they needed independence from England. Eventually independence grew and more people wanted to be separate from England. I think this was a necessary step towards gaining independence for them to have this meeting.
  • Lexington and Concord

    Lexington and Concord
Lexington and Concord were two battles fought in America as a response to the Boston Tea Party. It sparked the beginning of the revolutionary war. It marked a point where the colonists were no longer loyal to England at all. These battles resulted in the Colonists wanting more independence from England. I am not surprised by this happening and I think it is very significant because it was just the beginning of the revolutionary war.
  • Common Sense

    Common Sense
Common sense is a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine in America. It was written to persuade the colonists to support independence. The colonists didn't have many rights, so by Thomas Paine writing this it introduced limited government and rights of the people.I think common sense is a very important pamphlet because it got more colonists on board with trying to get their independence.
  • Declaration of Independence

    Declaration of Independence
The declaration of Independence is an act declaring Independence of the Colonies from England. The act stated why the colonists wanted independence. It resulted in a new country becoming official. I did expect this after many years of the colonists fighting for what they wanted.
