With tensions rising between Mexico and Texas, Texans grew tired of asking for separate statehood. On October 2nd, Texans refused to give Mexico their canon back and fired at Mexicans. This was the beginning of the Revolution.

Santa Anna, President of Mexico, attacks the Alamo. Many were killed, and those who survived were captured and executed by Santa Anna's Troops.

General Houston orders an attack on the Mexican army, shouting, "Remember The Alamo!" and "Remember Goliad!" This attack was a complete surprise to the resting Mexican soldiers. The attack lasted 18 minutes, 9 Texans died, and 630 Mexicans lost their lives that day. After the attack, Santa Anna was captured.

Citizens of Texas elected Sam Houston as their first president and Mirabeau B. Lamar as vice president.

Texas formally joins the Union as the 28th state. The bill was signed on December 29, 1845, but officially was a state in February 1846.

After the annexation of Texas, many settlers moved to Texas. President Polk defined the border between Texas and Mexico at the Rio Grande, but Mexico did not agree. When troops were sent to protect the border along the Rio Grande, Mexico saw it as an invasion, and the Battle of Palo Alto emmerged. U.S. Congress officially declared war on May 13.

The U.S. -Mexican War ended after signing the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo. The treaty established boundaries between the United States and Mexico, with Mexico officially recognizing Texas as a part of the United States. In addition, The U.S. also gained California, Nevada, Utah, New Mexico, and Arizona.

General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston and proclaimed the end of slavery for 250,000 African Americans and the end of the Confederacy.
