  • The seven years war

    This war went for seven years starting in 1756 and lasted until 1763. Britain and France fought each other with the help of Indigenous allies. They fought over the Quebec city and bay of Fundy.
  • Battle of the plains of Abraham

    Battle of the plains of Abraham
    On September 13, 1759 the indigenous allies of the British would battle the French on the plains of abraham.The battle would decide the fate of new France but because the British won it would later lead to the creation of canada.
  • The royal proclamation

    In October of 1763 king george III would issue the royal proclamation. The royal proclamation would create a boundary for Europeans for indigenous territories in North america. Which meant all land would be deemed as first nations land and would forbid new settlers from claiming their land.
  • The Quebec act

    The Quebec act would establish multiple benefits for both parties such as, it would expand the boundaries of Quebec, incorporate the people of Quebec into the rest of Canada's empire and make it easier to trade with one another. The Act meant the loss of a bargaining position for the Aboriginal people in Quebec. The act was finalized and was put into effect on 1 May 1775.
  • Smallpox and First Nation

    In the mid 18th century Europeans would start to arrive in Canada, the Europeans would give infected smallpox blankets as a grift to the first nations people. smallpox would kill off thousands of first nations peoples.
  • The north west resistance

    The north west resistance was a five month battle in 1885 between the Métis and First Nations peoples against the canadian government. The conflict would result in the
    And on june 3 the battle would end leaving the Métis and First Nations with the federal government not being able to control them any more.
  • Gold rush

    The peak of the gold rush in British Columbia was between the 1850s in the 1860s.The gold rush would fuel the economy in Canada because it was easy to trade with people in Canada as well as world trade. Indigenous people would sell the knowledge of where the Gold was too big mining companies. Indigenous also traded it mainly to the Hudson Beach Company.
  • Canadian Pacific Railway

    Canadian Pacific Railway
    The Canadian Pacific Railway or the CPR was founded on February 16, 1881 and would be completed in 1885. The goal of the railway was to make transporting goods easy and would connect the British colonies across Canada. The CPR wasn’t all that good for the First Nations people because the railway would force them out of their territories and onto reserves.
  • Confederation

    On July 1 1867 Nova Scotia New Brunswick and the province of Canada would unite into a Federation. This would do a lot of things for Canada such as making the railway easier to complete and it was also very important for the indigenous community because the government would be responsible over their affairs.
  • Residential Schools

    Residential Schools
    The residential schools system would Forcefully strip indigenous children away from their families for an extended period of time. They would not be allowed to acknowledge their culture and speak their native language. The first residential schools would start in 1870 and the last one closed in 1996 and still affects residential school victims today.
  • Treaty of Washington

    The treaty of Washington or the north arctic treaty would settle various debates within the country such as illegally fishing in Canadian waters. The treaty provided a framed area for the British and the Americans to separate the land , which was the indigenous peoples traditionally occupied. The treaty was signed in Washington on May 8 ,1871 .

    1876 the Indian act was created by the Canadian government and aimed to control and kill off the indigenous society. From this act they are still trying to repair the relationship with the indigenous people to this day.

    Louis Riel fought for what was right on behalf of the Métis. He was best known for being In charge of leading the Red River resilience but unfortunately was sentenced to death and he would be hanged on November 16, 1885

  • Jame bay agreement

    On November 11 1975 the James Bay agreement was signed into law. This law was important for the Cree, Inuit and Naskapi people because this agreement would make it so map out territories were protected by the government. This would forbid people who weren't from that land to trapping, hunting and fishing activities on their territories.
