To promote trade between Britain and India, Queen Elizabeth I established the East India Company in 1600. English became the main language for trading. However, several words in British English had a different meaning in Indian English. Therefore a new dictionary called "Hobson Jobson" was created to clarify what these words meant.

The English language was brought to America by British settlers. A new dialect called creole was created. It was used by the sailors and slaves on the ships from Africa. Creole is a more simple version of English and it has borrowed some words from the native languages of America and Africa. Creole is different on every island in The Caribbean. In Barbados they speak a variant that is pretty close to normal English but in Jamaica they speak a more distinct local language.
