    Potsdam Declaration
    The Allies agree in Potsdam to the fundamental conditions of the occupation of Germany. American nuclear bombs destroyed Hiroshima and Nagasaki. On July 26, 1945, United States President Harry S. Truman, United Kingdom Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and Chairman of the Nationalist Government of China Chiang Kai-shek issued the document, which outlined the terms of surrender for the Empire of Japan as agreed upon at the Potsdam Conference.   • The Soviet blockade of West Berlin

    The Soviet blockade of West Berlin
    The Soviet blockade of West Berlin begins on June 24. Cut off from the outside world, provisions are delivered to the isolated city by the Americans in the Berlin Air Bridge action.
